My Favourite Beauty Products of 2016

dsc_0091

2016 was a very experimental year for me when it comes to eyeshadows. Like every other year. I only dream about colours. So there’s not a lot of new products when it comes to skincare or complexion, just because I usually like to stick with what I love or I simply couldn’t find a favourite to include in this post. Feel free to give me any suggestions that might help me find the right products for my skin, excluding anything very colourful. You get plenty of that in this post!

  1. Skincare

I don’t have many favourites when it comes to face products just because I don’t use that many. When it comes to skincare, something that really impressed me in 2016 was the Bare Minerals Instant Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover. I know it’s not something to be really excited about, but when I turned my face to cruelty free products only, I realised it is a real struggle to find a good eye makeup remover, and a dupe for Garnier Micellar Water. I think the latter hasn’t been created yet.

In terms of moisturiser, I’ve been really enjoying Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentre. It is very hydrating for my bone dry skin, but it has no smell. And I love a good smell. It does its job though! And speaking of hydration, I discovered a new primer (I use primer and no foundation. I don’t know why, but I do). Hydra Veil by Illamasqua has stolen my heart, or skin, and injected it with good hydrating stuff. It’s a primer very much appreciated by my skin, which hates silicone primers that sit on top it. This one feels like another layer of moisturiser, but it keeps in place your concealer and any other product that you apply on top of it.

  1. Brows

There are 3 brow products that I have been loving in 2016, and they’re all from Illamasqua. One of them is my ultimate favourite because I love a natural eyebrow look and I think it has the perfect shade as well. It’s called Brow Build in shade Thrive. And it’s basically a brow gel with microfibres in it that only enhances your natural eyebrows. The other two products give you the opportunity to get more of a defined eyebrow, and these are: Eyebrow Cake in Thunder and the Brow and Lash Gel.

  1. Eyes

Let’s grab this section by the eyeshadow primer! All that my eyes could have been covered in this year, as a first layer, was the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Anti-Ageing. This primer doesn’t hide your imperfections on the spot, but it might on the long run (if you know what I mean!). I just found that this primer really keeps the oils at bay and my eyeshadow in place. So that’s all I could wish for, honestly!

If you haven’t already guessed, my favourite eyeshadow palette has to be The Modern Renaissance Palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills. This palette is extremely pigmented, creamy, blendable, versatile, and just dreamy – I hope I never wake up! If you’re keen to read more details about this palette, just visit my older post here.

And another eyeshadow palette that really impressed my sceptical eyelids was the Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette. I admit it, I got this one because it was on sale, but now I would definitely pay the normal price as I am aware of the quality. At first, I was like “I’d give it a try even if I’m not into very shimmery eyeshadows” (I own Naked 2 and I hate it!) and then I went to bed every single night drooling at the thought of new make-up looks that I could create with it the next day. This palette is my creative ashes pressed into a palette. My lazy ashes are into the Anastasia one.

Now, when we move to the other bits related to eyes, I don’t have so much to share with you, guys. I have a new mascara that I love for my bottom lashes, which is the NYX Skinny Mascara. But other than that, I have nothing else to share with you. Oh, no, there is something that I love a lot. It’s the Sealing Gel from Illamasqua. You can use this one as a base for your pigments or you can mix it with any loose pigment or eyeshadow to create eyeliners as well.

  1. Complexion

There are two products that I really want to mention in this section and they’re both from The Balm. First one is the highlighter called The Mary Loo Manizer, which on my skin tone looks very natural and my cheekbones are very grateful for its birth. The other one is the blusher Frat Boy and my cheeks are ever so thankful to have gained a dusty rose colour every day, for the rest of their lives!

When it comes to concealer, I must confess, I’m still looking for the perfect one. I enjoy using Naked Skin Concealer from Urban Decay, but sometimes I find it a bit too drying on my skin. Still in the search for THE ONE!

  1. Lips

There’s only one shade that I want to talk about in this section. It’s not a 2016 shade and it’s not new. But I have found it last year and it is the shade of 2016 for me. (Drum roll) It’s Lime Crime Matte Velvetines in Pumpkin. I think this shade got more compliments than any other lipstick I have ever worn. It is a liquid lipstick and it is a bit drying, but the colour it’s just so beautiful that no one cares about the texture anymore. Or the smell. Yeah, it smells of pure paint! But nothing can beat that burnt orange colour, so I don’t mind the bits I don’t like about the lipstick itself.

Alright, let me just mention another lip product before I move to the last section. I was quite surprised to eventually find my perfect nude shade that could give me a 60s look, but not make me look washed out. And the Nude Globe goes to the semi-matte Illamasqua Starkers Lipstick.

  1. Hair

I’m obsessed with Lee Stafford products. Everything that I’ve tried so far, I loved. The Original Dry Shampoo smells really nice and doesn’t make my scalp itchy at all. The Hair Growth Treatment conquered the territory when it comes to hair masks, and nothing has gained it back since 2015! My hair is growing so much faster now, and it smells divine. Here Come The Curls Crème Lite made me fall in love with it at first use. My frizzy hair has finally found its soulmate. It melted its heart so badly, that now my curls are actually real curls, not only frizzy cowlicks.
